Digital solution for packaging waste sorting

DigiDot is an EU digital platform that provides locally tailored information on the sorting and disposal of packaging waste through QR codes, web applications, and mobile apps.

DigiDot, the digital packaging-sorting guide, is expanding across Europe following its successful launch in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. This initiative provides consumers with access to accurate and locally tailored instructions for sorting and disposing of packaging waste through a single QR code printed on product packaging. In doing so, it directly addresses one of the key challenges of the European circular economy: improved waste sorting is essential for achieving higher recycling rates.

The international rollout of the DigiDot system is supported by PRO Europe through its network of 31 member organizations across Europe, as well as in Turkey and Israel. Ekopak from Bosnia and Herzegovina is a member of PRO Europe.

DigiDot has been designed to support the new European packaging-labeling requirements. In accordance with Article 12 of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), QR codes are recognized as an optional tool for providing detailed information about packaging materials and recommended disposal methods. This enables consumers to correctly identify how and where to dispose of each individual packaging component.

DigiDot is a digital platform that provides locally tailored information on the sorting and disposal of packaging waste through QR codes, web applications, and mobile apps. The system enables consumers across Europe to correctly separate packaging waste and contributes to higher recycling quality and rates in different markets. By using digital information instead of static text on packaging, the need for additional printing and packaging complexity is reduced. Disposal information can also be updated in line with local regulations and languages, leaving more space on packaging for brand communication.

In this way, DigiDot represents a future-ready solution for brands, extended producer responsibility (EPR) systems, and consumers.

DigiDot can also incorporate the Green Dot symbol to support the financing of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems, accompanied by a clear explanation of its meaning for consumers across Europe.
